Stay away from the McDonalds Quarter Pounder Ecoli outbreak!

Linking to the death of one customer, a McDonalds Quarter Pounder Ecoli outbreak has been discovered, stopping the sales of the popular item across 12 states in the U.S. Although the investigation is still underway, investigators believe that the outbreak may have been caused by the burger patties or the sliced onion topping.

As of this date, a total of 49 people have gotten sick from the McDonalds Quarter Pounder Ecoli outbreak between September 27 and October 11. 10 hospitalizations have been recorded, along with one death in Colorado. According to the CDC, one customer developed a serious condition that may lead to kidney failure.

“If you ate a Quarter Pounder hamburger from McDonald’s and have severe symptoms of E. coli, contact your healthcare provider,” wrote the CDC on Twitter. E.coli symptoms include diarrhea, a fever higher than 102 F, excessive vomiting, and sign of dehydration which include dry mouth, dry throat, and reduced urine.

Due to the outbreak, McDonald’s has ended sales of the Quarter Pounder at all locations within Colorado, Kansas, Utah, and Wyoming. Several restaurants located in Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma have also halted sales of the item.

McDonald’s stated in a news release that “initial findings from the investigation indicate that a subset of illnesses may be linked to slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounder and sourced by a single supplier that serves three distribution centers. As a result, and in line with our safety protocols, all local restaurants have been instructed to remove this product from their supply and we have paused the distribution of all slivered onions in the impacted area.”

The FDA stated that the slivered onions are served as a topping on the Quarter Pounder burger. In their most recent update on the investigation, the FDA also stated that “diced onions and other types of beef patties used at McDonald’s have not been implicated in this outbreak.”

McDonald’s President Joe Erlinger confirmed “the majority of states and the majority of menu items are not affected.” The restaurant chain’s beef products including cheeseburgers, hamburgers, Big Macs, McDoubles, and Double Cheeseburgers have not been affected.

As if we needed to warn you, it is best to stay away from the McDonalds Quarter Pounder Ecoli outbreak, or McDonalds in general!
